VOA Classic Bets of the Week- The Final Stretch of the LPGA Tour Season Begins in the Frigid Cold

Three weeks remain on the LPGA Tour calendar, with the U.S. Women's Open and the CME Group Tour Championship to follow the Volunteers of America Classic. This ending sprint begins in frigid temperatures, with the lows in the 30s. Last year, when this tournament was in early October, the average lows were in the 60s.

The field is composed of 96 players, with a small field due to a smaller sunlight window. The smaller number of players creates more value for every bet placed- there are fewer contenders to fend off.

The tournament is in its eighth year and the third at Old American Golf Club. Odds on favorite this week Inbee Park is the only multiple-time winner of the event, winning in 2013 and 2015 at Las Colinas Sports Club.

This year, the two multiple-time winners this year, Danielle Kang and Sei Young Kim, are not in the field this week.

Bets of the Week

Ally McDonald (+1600)

Betting on McDonald is like betting on a stock after it hit its 52-week high. The goal is to get in the door before the value jump, but McDonald is the second hottest player in the LPGA world. It isn't easy to see that changing. Before her win and second-place finish at Pelican in her last two events, McDonald hadn't missed a cut and finished in the top 25 in seven of eight starts. She hasn't missed a cut since June of 2019. No cold temperate can slow down McDonald, but it may be the last time she's bet on as a McDonald. Her name is now Ally Ewing on the LPGA Tour website after getting married in May of this year.

Bet: 7.5 units to win 120 units

Caroline Masson (+3500)

Masson is one of the steadier hands on the LPGA Tour, finishing in the top 20 in 9 of her last 16 starts. Masson is coming off to Texas a T12 at the Pelican Women's Championship. She hasn't played the Volunteers of America Classic since it moved courses in 2018 and is used to playing golf in colder temperatures as a German native. It's a good chance for Masson to record her 2nd career LPGA Tour victory with the smaller field.

Bet: 5 units to win 175 units

Mi Jung Hur (+4000)

Hur makes her second start of the post-pandemic pause at Old American Golf Club and is falling into a familiar pattern to vault her into contention. Since her first of two victories in 2019 at Aberdeen Standard Investments Ladies Scottish Open, Hur has finished T20 or T21 four times, including the Pelican Women's Championship in her last start. In her previous three, she finished in the top ten, including a T9 at the Cambia Portland Classic and two T4 at Taiwan Swinging Skirts and the Diamond Resorts Tournament of Champions to open 2020.

Hur is one of nine players at +4000, joining Jessica Korda, Stacy Lewis, Anna Nordqvist, Cheyenne Knight, Charley Hull, Sung Hyun Park, Celine Boutier, and Amy Yang at 40 to 1 odds.

Bet: 5 units to win 200 units

Gaby Lopez (+5500)

Since Lopez's COVID-19 diagnosis and return to the tour, her results have been like a weightlifter's muscle growth. In her first three events back in August, she finished T59 in every start. Then, she broke through the plateau in mid-September and finished T28 and T27. Then, at the beginning of October, she once again climbed above her plateau with a T9 finish at the KPMG Women's PGA Championship and T13 at the Drive On Championship at Reynolds Lake Oconee. It’s been six weeks since her last start, and past returns are no guarantee of future results, but Lopez has two top 20 finishes in two starts at Old American Golf Club.

Bet: 5 units to win 275 units

Angela Stanford (+12500)

Since August, the native Texan has launched a resurgence during the 2020 restart, with two top 10 finishes. Those are her first two top 10s since winning the Evian Championship in 2018, her last victory on the LPGA Tour.

Her last top 10 was at the previous event, when she finished T6 at the Pelican Women's Championship. Ride the momentum into back-to-back years with fairytale victories, as the Texan looks to join Cheyenne Knight and Stacy Lewis as winners in their home state at this tournament. She'd also join Knight as the feel-good story winner, as Stanford's Mom finished her cancer treatment this week. Stanford has had a couple of moments back in the hunt, and at 125 to 1, she's a worthy long shot.

Bet: 2.5 units to win 312.5 Units
